It’s Official: We’re Awesome

This month, Mason made three different lists for providing an excellent, affordable, and diverse education. We rock!

Every where we turn, George Mason University is getting the thumb’s up. Three new lists feature Mason in their rankings.

George Mason University was named in the top 150 [2] of the best national universities on U.S.News and World Report’s list of Best Colleges 2011 [3], published on Aug. 17.

In addition, Mason was ranked for the third consecutive year in the top five “Up-and-Coming Universities.” Mason is one of 28 national universities and the only university in Virginia to be recognized in this group.

This list of up-and-comers, comprising 68 colleges and universities across the country, identifies institutions that have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus or facilities.

And for the ninth consecutive year, Mason’s Writing Across the Curriculum [4]program was included in U.S.News’ listing of “Academic Programs to Look for.” Mason is one of only 23 schools, and one of only 10 public institutions, highlighted in the special category “Writing in the Disciplines.”

Meanwhile, business magazine Forbes [5]named Mason [5] as one of America’s Best College Buys [6] in its 2010 rankings.

Also this month, the Education Trust recognized Mason as one of the few universities in the nation with little or no disparity in graduation rates [7] between African American and Hispanic students compared with white students.
