By Mason Spirit contributor on September 10, 2014

George Mason University alumni, faculty and staff and parents and friends are invited to enjoy a fall celebration under the stars on the Fairfax Campus.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Green and Gold Bash will feature great music, food by the Grafton Street Restaurant and Irish Pub, and a spirits tasting by the A. Smith Bowman Distillery.

Doc Nix and the Green Machine will kick off the evening’s entertainment, followed later by DJ Chris Styles. Guests can capture memories in the eight-person photo booth or via the on-site caricature artists.

The fun happens on the North Plaza in the heart of Mason’s Fairfax Campus. Registration is $20. Tickets for the spirit tasting are $5 per person for those over 21.

It is interesting to note that Mason and the Bowman Distillery have a bit of a history. In 1927, Abram Smith Bowman moved to Fairfax County, Va., with his family, establishing the Sunset Hills dairy and granary. In the 1950s, Bowman offered up the 7,200-acre farm as a proposed location for “George Mason College.” Mason’s Board of Visitors ultimately chose Mason’s current location in Fairfax, and Bowman’s Sunset Hills Farm became the planned community of Reston. Today, the Bowman Distillery produces Virginia bourbon in its Fredericksburg location.
