University Sends Alumni High-Tech Messages

By Kate Passin, B.A. '00

In February, you may have received an online video invitation to attend the Homecoming Week basketball games. The invitation was the second in a series of video e-mails inviting alumni to stay involved in the university community.

The Homecoming Week message (www.gmu.edu/mlalumni/homecoming) featured Jim Larranaga and Debbie Taneyhill, the respective head coaches of the men's and women's basketball teams. The two coaches invited alumni to show their "Patriot pride" and "pack the Patriot Center" at the men's and women's basketball games during Homecoming Week.

In the first message (www.gmu.edu/greeting1), which was sent in December, President Alan Merten and his wife, Sally, wished alumni season's greetings. Feedback from alumni has been very positive regarding the e-mail project, and subsequent messages are planned.

The university and Alumni Association have made it a priority to increase the number of e-mail addresses in the alumni database in order to capitalize on new technologies and modes of communication. Alumni can update their records by e-mailing alumni@gmu.edu. If you are interested in lifetime e-mail, the association invites you to visit www.zPatriots.com to get a free zPatriots e-mail account.
