New Legislative Web Site Keeps Virginians Informed

By Michelle Nery, B.A. English '97

How can you find out about key issues in the Virginia legislature that will affect George Mason? Thanks to Eric Welch, B.S. Marketing '00, and Capitol Advantage, the George Mason community can receive updates on legislative actions regarding higher education and e-mail their representatives with a click of the mouse. Accessible via George Mason's home page, the Government and You web site is a grassroots legislative information tool produced by Capitol Advantage, a publisher of congressional directories.

Welch, a marketing coordinator for Capitol Advantage, brought this service to the university. "I'm very excited about the opportunity to help my alma mater accomplish its legislative goals. I think most alumni and undergraduates would be more than willing to lend their support to George Mason's cause if they only knew about the issues facing the university and whom to contact to help make a difference," says Welch.

The site features information on issues that directly affect George Mason, a directory of the state legislature and congressional delegation with general biographies and contact information, and an issues and legislation page with updates on current alerts, bills, and votes.

"In only three clicks of a mouse, supporters of the university will now be able to read about legislative and political issues involving George Mason, and find out who their local legislator is," says Welch. To access the Government and You site, go to George Mason's web site at www.gmu.edu and click on "Mason Highlights" and the "Current Buttons."
