The Mason Spirit: The Magazine for Alumni and Friends of George Mason University

Letter from the President

Fellow Alumni:

It's hard to believe that this is my last letter to you as president. The past two years have been as challenging and productive as I could have possibly hoped. We added four new chapters, funded a true endowment, engaged in affinity programs for our members, hosted countless events for alumni and students, participated in The Campaign for George Mason University, served at Orientation and Commencement, and much more. We have an online directory and new e-mail forwarding service. Please contact the Alumni Affairs Office for details.

The campuses are booming with new construction: new housing, a parking garage, and dining facilities are under way. Those of you who haven't seen the Fairfax Campus recently would not recognize it. It has transformed into a very large, very beautiful college campus.

Homecoming continues to grow each year. This year was particularly festive with good weather, lots of students and alumni, and a thrilling Patriot win over Delaware.

The Campaign for George Mason University is proceeding, but it will end June 30, 2005. As you know, the campaign has already topped its first goal with more than $110 million. Your support is encouraged and greatly appreciated.

My heartfelt thanks go to Chris Clark-Talley, executive director of Alumni Affairs, and the Alumni Affairs staff. You have made my term exciting and fun.

It is my privilege to pass the gavel to Cathy Lemmon, the current president-elect, to lead us for the next two years. Cathy is the most talented, dedicated board member with whom it has been my pleasure to serve. She will no doubt serve us well.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your president. The pleasure was mine.

Sincerely,

Brian C. Drummond, JD '88
