Letter from the President
Dear Alumni:
Wow! What an incredible year it has been for Mason. The success of the men’s basketball team this season is a wonderful example of Mason’s continued pursuit of excellence.
From outstanding faculty to groundbreaking research to intellectual students to high-achieving athletics to successful alumni to a dynamic cultural arts program, excellence permeates all aspects of the Mason community. People around the globe now understand what we have already known—Mason is a powerhouse of academic and athletic achievement. I am so proud to be a Mason alumna.
The Alumni Association has had its share of success this year, too. Some of the highlights include
- The Legislative Advocacy Committee led our support to the university’s legislative program to persuade the Virginia General Assembly to allocate funding to expand Mason’s research efforts.
- We established the George Mason University Alumni Association Scholarship to recognize an undergraduate or graduate student for exceptional university community service.
- Alumni played a key role in the success of the university’s capital campaign.
- The number of alumni chapters grew to 17 with the establishment of the Government and International Politics/International Affairs Alumni Chapter. (Information about all alumni chapters is available online at www.gmu.edu/alumni/chapters.html.)
It has been a pleasure to serve as your Alumni Association president. I wish all of you much success and happiness in the future.
