Dean Update:

Maddox Named New CNHS Dean

P. J. Maddox has been officially appointed as the new dean of the university’s College of Nursing and Health Science following an extensive, national search, according to Provost Peter Stearns.

“Dr. Maddox brings both energy and vision to her new position, as well as fruitful experience in the college and in the university at large,” says Stearns. “I am convinced that Dr. Maddox will enhance the college’s strong trajectory and its importance in the university and in the region.”

Maddox had been serving as interim dean since August, when former dean Rita Carty stepped down. Prior to that, Maddox served as assistant dean for graduate health sciences programs and director of the Office of Research in the Center for Health Policy, Research, and Ethics. She came to George Mason in 1995 from the National Institutes of Health, where she was a member of the executive management team of its research hospital in Bethesda and had served as deputy director for nursing and service chief for several of the institutes.
