Virginia Commonwealth University and George Mason are the state’s largest colleges. In anticipation of the men’s basketball match-up on February 9th, the two schools are engaging in a little friendly competition to see who can net the most new fans for their respective facebook pages.

A graduate of the School of Public Policy (SPP) is helping to lead US military aid efforts to the earthquake-stricken country of Haiti. Bruce Lindsey, captain of the USS Carl Vinson, an aircraft carrier, is currently heading down to the island country by way of Florida. Lindsey received his PhD from SPP in 2005.

The BB&T Professor for the Study of Capitalism at Mason’s Mercatus Center, Leeson applies economic principles to quirky subjects, from UFO and Bigfoot sightings to the capitalism of pirates. And people are taking notice of his unorthodox and intriguing research topics.
