Mason’s New Fight Song

By Leah Kerkman Fogarty on November 13, 2009

Rest up your voice to make some noise at the basketball season openers tonight.

As the great sage Mr. Bing Crosby would say, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” But we’re not talking about the holiday season (though that’s pretty cool, too). We’re talking about Mason Patriot basketball!

The ladies begin the fun at 5pm tonight at the Patriot Center. The men’s team follows that game, with a 30-minute break between the two. The men’s game will start no earlier than 7:30pm.

And, in addition to your Patriot gear and green and gold face paint, you’ll want to add one more thing to your to-do list before the games tonight: Learn the lyrics for Mason’s new fight song, “Onward to Victory”! Written by Green Machine bandleader Michael “Doc Nix” Nickens, the new lyrics make their regular season debut tonight:

Hail to George Mason!
Don your green and gold!
We’re going to sing for George Mason,
Patriots brave and bold!
We’re going to cheer for George Mason,
Proud for the world to see!
We’ll prove our honor and might,
As we march onward to victory!
